Indian Prime Minister Modi to visit France on 13 July
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit France on 13 July to advance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in areas ranging from defense and security to energy.
Modi will visit France from July 13 to 14, at the invitation of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. The Indian Prime Minister will be the honoree at the Bastille Day Parade on July 14. The event will feature an Indian tri-services contingent. Bastille Day Parade is the oldest and largest military parade in Europe held annually on 14 July on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, France.
An invitation to be the primary guest at the Bastille Day Parade is often regarded as a significant honor. In 2017, the former United States President, Donald Trump, was invited as a dignitary to the ceremony.
Reportedly, French President Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron will hold formal talks with the Indian Prime Minister. The French president will host a banquet and a private dinner for the Indian leader.
Modi will also meet Elisabeth Borne, the Prime Minister of France. Modi is also scheduled to meet the presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly.
The Indian prime minister will also meet with the Indian diaspora in France, CEOs of various Indian and French companies, and famous French celebrities.
According to sources and reports, several agreements to strengthen defense cooperation between India and France are expected to be finalized during the meeting, including one for the acquisition of 26 naval variants of the Rafael combat jet and three Scorpion-class submarines, as well as another for the joint development of a fighter jet engine with French aircraft equipment manufacturer Safran.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) currently has 36 Rafael
combat planes in service. The acquisition of these planes was finalized during Modi's visit to France in 2015. The new Rafale M fighters are slated to service on the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
