UAE Brokers 180 POWs Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine
The United Arab Emirates successfully mediated a deal between Moscow and Kyiv over the exchange of 180 prisoners of war. This would be the fifth successful mediation effort since the turn of the year, underlining the central role that the UAE can now play in international diplomacy.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, said that it was able to mediate the swap with the active support of strong relations and partnerships existing between the Russian and Ukrainian governments. The ministry thanked both governments for the exerted and successful cooperation in carrying out the process of detainee exchange.Okayed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who confirmed that 90 prisoners of war had been handed back from Russian captivity, he underscored the value of exchange in humanitarian terms.
