UAE Brokers 180 POWs Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine

 The United Arab Emirates successfully mediated a deal between Moscow and Kyiv over the exchange of 180 prisoners of war. This would be the fifth successful mediation effort since the turn of the year, underlining the central role that the UAE can now play in international diplomacy.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, said that it was able to mediate the swap with the active support of strong relations and partnerships existing between the Russian and Ukrainian governments. The ministry thanked both governments for the exerted and successful cooperation in carrying out the process of detainee exchange.Okayed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who confirmed that 90 prisoners of war had been handed back from Russian captivity, he underscored the value of exchange in humanitarian terms. Russia's defense ministry confirmed and added in a statement that besides the 90 war prisoners, who had been under Ukrainian control, they exchanged.The UAE reiterated its support for the peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue, de-escalation, and diplomacy. The ministry added other issues on the humanitarian repercussions of the situation and methods of peaceful conflict resolution were discussed.The latest mediation effort by the UAE cements its major role in providing peace and stability in the world and thus puts the country at the high table of international diplomacy.
