Iranian President Claims Israel Attempted to Assassinate Him

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated in an interview on Monday that Israel, which recently engaged in a 12-day conflict with Iran, had attempted to kill him.

These comments came shortly after Israel began an unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran on June 13, resulting in the deaths of high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists.

The Israeli strikes occurred just two days before scheduled discussions between Tehran and Washington regarding nuclear negotiations, hindering efforts to finalise an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

“They did try, yes. They acted accordingly, but they failed,” Pezeshkian told US media figure Tucker Carlson in response to a question on whether he believed Israel had tried to kill him.

“It was not the United States that was behind the attempt on my life. It was Israel. I was in a meeting… they tried to bombard the area in which we were holding that meeting,” he said, according to a translation of his remarks from Persian, in apparent reference to an alleged assassination attempt during the recent war.

According to the judiciary, over 900 individuals lost their lives in Iran throughout the conflict.
The Israeli assaults prompted significant retaliatory drone and missile strikes, leading to 28 fatalities in Israel, as reported by officials.

During the 12-day war between Iran and Israel, both the latter and the United States executed strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz.

A ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been in effect since June 24.
